Negli ultimi mesi si sono verificati diversi problemi con i core i7, in particolare però gli i7 7700K e i7 7700 hanno dato più problemi del dovuto agli utenti. Sostanzialmente, sono state rilevate temperature decisamente anomale, con T che toccano e superano i 90 gradi, parecchio vicini al TjMax di 100° dichiarati da Intel.
In un comunicato, un dipendente di Intel che ha parlato a nome della compagnia ha scritto:
“We appreciate the feedback you have provided, and your patience as we investigated this behavior. The reported behavior of the 7th Generation Intel Core i7-7700K Processor, showing momentary temperature changes from the idle temperature, is normal while completing a task (like opening a browser or an application or a program).
In our internal investigation, we did not observe temperature variation outside of the expected behavior and recommended specifications. For processor specifications, please refer to the Intel Core i7-7700K Processor Product Specifications.
Most motherboard manufacturers offer customizable fan speed control settings that may allow for smoother transition of fan revolutions per minute (rpm). Please consult your motherboard manufacturer’s manual or website for instructions on how to change default fan speed control settings.
We do not recommend running outside the processor specifications, such as by exceeding processor frequency or voltage specifications, or removing of the integrated heat spreader (sometimes called ‘de-lidding’). These actions will void the processor warranty.”
Una risposta che decisamente non è piaciuta agli utenti intel. Riassumendo, Intel dice di non superare mai le frequenze a cui sono venduti gli i7, anche se versioni K, e di non rimuovere l’heatspreader di serie (procedura chiamata delidding) perchè annullano la garanzia e di verificare i giri della ventola di raffreddamento.
Le prime risposte degli utenti a questo comunicato sono state furiose, del tipo “Tre mesi aspettando una soluzione da Intel e ora ci dite questo? È veramente tutto quello che avete da dire?” e qualcun altro che scrive a Intel che la loro risposta sia “BS”, e che attualmente gli i7-7700 e 7700K stanno andando in stock, con temperature più alte dei vecchi Bulldozer AMD overclockati a 5GHz.
Gli utenti sono sostanzialmente in fermento perchè, Intel, dice che le temperature riportate siano normali, e che le CPU anche se K, non debbano essere overcloccate.
“I don’t even have the major issue like everyone else is having. However, after Intel’s response just now, they are not getting another penny out of me. I’m going to sell my Intel stuff and go to Ryzen”.
